Local Attractions

Located just 75 minutes from Washington, DC and Baltimore, Maryland, Stoney Creek is an important landmark in the historic country town of Boonsboro located in Washington County, Maryland. Founded in 1792, Boonsboro is home to the country’s first monument to honor George Washington on top of South Mountain. The first battle of the Civil War fought on northern soil was on this mountain on September 14, 1862.

Stoney Creek is just moments away from many important Civil War landmarks and interesting local attractions such as Antietam  Battlefield, Gettysburg, Washington Monument State Park, the Appalachian Trail, and Sheperdstown and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

Stoney Creek is also close to many wonderful restaurants such as the South Mountain Inn where many American presidents have enjoyed a delicious meal. Some of our favorite restaurants include The Press Room, Kazu Cuisine, and Bistro 112 in Shepherdstown WV. In Hagerstown MD we recommend L.J.'s and the Kat Lounge as well as Black Eyed Susan. Call the Inn for more information and dining reservations.

For shoppers, antiquers, and bargain-hunters, Stoney Creek is 10 miles from the discount shopping outlets in Hagerstown, Maryland, as well as dozens of unique craft, artisan and antique shops.
